Which Rookie Division ?
The current Rookie Division in Poughkeepsie's Babe Ruth Cal Ripken will be split into two divisions:
Rookie A and Rookie AA.
The goal of this split is to allow players to advance based on skill shown on the field similar to a
major league farm system. The focus is on fundamentals to better prepare players for the next
division, Minors.
Rookie A (Coach-Pitch)
- Open to 6 and 7 year olds
- Coaches pitch to players
- No umpires
- 3-4 inning games
- Call-up eligibility to Rookie AA division at coach’s discretion
Rookie AA (Player-Pitch)
- Open to 8 year olds and evaluated 7 year olds
*7 year olds must be able to throw and catch with proficiency and swing at player pitched balls
- Players pitch and play the catcher position
- Umpires
- Playoffs
- Games played under modified Minor rules including:
- Base stealing except home
- 4 player outfield
- Max of 2 innings per pitcher; 6 inning games
- More opportunities to play including:
- Call-up eligibility for Minors at coach’s discretion
- Minor division pool play eligibility at coach’s discretion
- District-travel play (Schedule TBD)
*Our district includes: Beekman, East Fishkill, New Paltz, Marlboro and Orange County
